We here at J-Tech Flooring Incorporated PLC LTD Registered Specialist are master craftsmen1 We pride ourselves on our work and here's an example from a delighted customer :-

Step 1) Laying The Underlay...

Choosing an underlay depends on the type of surface you are laying the flooring onto.  I.e. Concrete, it is best to use a plastic/foam sheeting to stop moisture rising, in this case as it's floor boards then a fibre board underlay was used, make sure the floorboards are secure.  If you have creaky floorboards that can't be nailed down, use Gaffa tape to seal them.
Tools checklist :-
  • Hammer
  • Stanley Knife
  • Staple Gun
  • Straight Edge
  • Gaffa Tape
  • Pencil.

Use the gaffa tape to secure the sheets of fibre board together, a straight edge to use your stanley knife to cut it with, and the staple gun to stick cork explansion strips around the edges of the wall.

In this case we didn't take the skirting boards off as this would have certainly involved redecorating/plastering.

Step Two)

Laying the floor.

t is usual to let the laminate flooring climatise for 3 days in the room in which it is to be laid, after all if it's too cold it will shrink and too warm it expands.  Measuring each section at a time, cut it to shape and lay the floor.

Remember to measure before making The Final Cut!

Careful with that Axe Eugene!

The trickiest bits are where there's no gap or play

For architraves, simply cut off the bottom and slide your floor underneath!

Before you know it the floor's almost done!

The flooring I chose was meant to be lock and load type variety, but was 15mm thick, so it had to be eased into place by a large lump hammer and block of wood, this meant the last piece was difficult to lay!  So plan ahead!

You eventually end up with the finished product!

Step 3) Finishing the job.

At this point you can either stick back on your skirting board or put edging strips down. So edging strips it was!

Again, take your time and cut each strip to size, I used the Master Craftsmen All Purpose Sealing Glue aka (No More Nails!) Which will be a problem should I need to get it off, but it does leave a better finish than nails!

The finished article.

Total project time 2 Days
