Country: France Region: Vercors OS/ GPS Reference: Depth: Number of Pitches: 2 Length: Access: This cave has open access to all that wish to visit it, there is a small walk (20 minutes) and finding the cave entrance can be interesting. Hazards: Ice, if ropes are use in the lower sections of this cave no other special equipment is required. This cave is cold as a result if you are waiting around for photo's or a free rope additional thermals could be recommended under the normal caving kit. Although as we were only a group of 3 we didn't bother. Special Features: Ice, this cave is only small with a main chamber and a separate passage both the passage and the main chamber hold snow and ice all year round creating some cold but wonderful formations Description: Another short cave this trip gives easy access with ropes to a cave which is plugged with glacier ice and has been for many years. The cave has a large wide opening to start with and much of the rope work can be done in day light and only involves small sections of vertical caving as most of it is descending down slopes either covered in mud or ice/ snow. At the bottom of the main pitches there are two possible routes down, the obvious route is to continue down the snow slope into the mouth of the cave and gives access to the wonderful ice formations that can be found here. Returning back to the previous point there is a second route down to the right involving a decent down another snow slope which is more of a passage. At the bottom of this passage there is a large Ice plug stopping further passage into the cave. You may see a telephone line frozen into the ice here. During very hot summers a small section of this ice plug has been knowing to thaw enough to allow access below it and the wire was placed to allow communication to the caves exploring the cave below.
