Scialet Des Drayes is a superb little cave located not far from la Vacherie, parking the car on the side of the farmers track its a short 2 minute walk to the fenced off cave entrance amongst the trees Country: France Region: Vercors OS GPS Reference: Depth: 30m Number of Pitches: 1 Length: Access: Open access, this cave is not locked or gated and there is no known restriction on access at any time. Hazards: None (although my boot was attacked by a snake at the bottom of the pitch on are last visit) Special Features: Superb formations with little effort. Description: From the cave entrance a simple pitch is descended with a Y-hang from spits and a tree (other variations possible) to a deviation at about 10m, this then leads to either a re-belay or a Y-hang depending on how you want to rig it. The entrance pitch which slopes slightly ends on a pile of debris which has collected over the years from leaves and mud etc. Following the chamber past the trench in floor leads to a narrowing and allows you to enter the short crawl into the second chamber, this craw normally contains Gower dams full of water which can be avoid with care. The second chamber is the main reason to explore this cave, there are a range of formations and there are other tighter passages to explore but all are dead ends after 5m or 10m but can be interesting sport.
