I have had quite a few requests for help, in terms of tracing old squadron friends or looking for information or photos.
Sometimes I can help a little, but not always. By publishing the request here it will be seen by a lot more people ...
Perhaps you can help?
If so, please email me (follow the link from the home page) and I can put you in touch.

I have a favour to ask and hope that you may be able to help me find a very special photograph of 29 Squadron taken in 1966/67 at RAF Akrotiri. My good friend Cliff was based there when 29 Squadron handed over to 56 Squadron. He recalls that a Javelin crashed near the bomb dump, and that both aircrew ejected. The pilot was OK, but the navigator received fairly substantial injuries. Shortly afterwards, there was a Squadron photocall, to mark their tour at Akrotiri, and Cliff was watching as an ambulance pulled up and out got the navigator, bandaged almost from head to toe. He had still managed to squeeze into his best uniform so that he would not miss the Squadron Photo. The medics helped him into position, and then whisked him away once the photographer had taken his shots. Cliff retires later this year, and knowing how much he loved his time in Cyprus, I am really hoping to find a copy of this picture so that I can frame it and give to him as a retirement present. I know that for him to see this again would mean a lot to him, as he witnessed the event with his own eyes. If you have any ideas of how to find it, or have contact with any former 29 Squadron crews who may have a copy, I would be very grateful for your help. |

I was stunned to find your web site and find the virtual flight re-enactment planned for the ferry flight that turned out to be Edward Owens' final flight. He was my Mum's older half brother and she had asked me to do some research to see if I could trace any information on him - particularly a photograph - as due to family circumstances she knew very little about him other than some of the tragic circumstances of his death. ...It would be wonderful to glean any further information ... on my uncle (Edward Owens), or indeed if Tony Melton the navigator that fortunately survived the crash and was rescued from the jungle, had any recollections of my uncle? My Mum
(Sheila Margaret McCarthy nee Owens) would be overjoyed for any
information that can be provided - particularly if Ted still has surviving
family. |
