I met many of my social friends via Scouting. I am an Assistant Cub Scout Leader in North Watford, England, UK. Our Cub Pack has around 20 boys aged between 8 and 11 years old.
We do some really great things with the cubs like, backwoods cooking, weekend camps and we also go on a pack holiday every year for 5 days. So far we have visited, The Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Wales, Kent, The New Forest and this year we are going to The Cheddar Gorge in Somerset.
In 1990 John and I went to Kenya with the Scout leaders from all over Hertfordshire. We set ourselves a project of raising over £100,000 to enable us to get over there and built a water holder for an entire village and in a different village we finished building a hospital which was 6 rooms. There was 60 of us there ages ranged from 18 to 60 years old. It was one of the most memorable times of my life.
Six years later we still keep in touch with some of the friends we made out there.
Through Scouting I have met most of my social friends. With two of them we have started to cook International Meals. We cook once a month and we have conjured up some of these interesting counties, Italy, Jamaica, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Scottish, English, French, Lebonanese and Moroccan to mention but a few. We are now stuck for what to do next year for our themes. If you have any ideas, Please email me with them.
