This preamp is based on the NE5532 low noise dual opamp, and is intended for use with moving magnet pickup cartridges of nominal sensitivity 1.5 - 5mV. It incorporates an LF (rumble) filter with a sharp turnover at 25Hz and 12db/Oct slope.

There is a zipfile which may be downloaded, and which includes a PCB layout.

Supply is shown as +/- 9v, giving an output capabilty in excess of 3v rms, and making it capable of being supplied from 2 x PP3 batteries. The batteries are mounted above the PCB. Supply voltage may be increased to +/- 18v with no change to component values.

PCB size is 2.2" x 2.0" and the box housing shown is 4.0"x2.75"x1.5"

This design was cobbled together some years ago, and works extremely well. Except for the PCB design, no claim for originality is made. It can be used as the front end to an amplifier which lacks a Mag PU facilty, including PC soundcards.
