When I started work in 1951 in
Manchester City Centre I first heard The Saints Jazz Band and it may be of
interest that I still have the three original 78 rpm records made by the band on
the Decibel Label which states "Lancashire Society of Jazz Music Series recorded
at the Dixon Roadhouse Recording Studios, Oxford Road Manchester" The recording
would have been made in 1950 or 1951 and of course many people in the Manchester
area would have known Johnny Roadhouse. I also have the Parlophone 78 of a
concert at the Festival Hall during the Festival of Britain in 1951 with The
Saints on one side and The Crane River Band on the other. Thanks for an interesting
site.
Made very interesting reading Geof. Tony Davis reminds me
that there are TWO cds of The Saints which are on Lake Records, including, of
course, the COMPLETE version of "I Want A Girl" from the RFH concert?

Hi you may remember me, I sat next to you at the IOM Jazz Festival this year. thanks for an extremely clear and concise jazz site. I really enjoy reading all the jazz news. It is sad to hear that so many jazz musicians have died recently. With regard to the comment from another jazzer that what will happen in 20 years or so when all the current jazzers are playing their tunes in Heaven, well there are new young musicians playing trad jazz, one just has to seek them out. Information about them can usually be sourced from the various jazz magazines. Thanks once again. Mildred Finney

Thanks for informative pages about jazz in UK. I´m a drummer in two traditional, established jazz band in Sweden: Mississippi Seven and The Ragamuffins. The first mentioned has a repertoare from the 20:s and 30:s as well as some "evergreens" from then. The Ragamuffins has choosen swing from the 30:s and 40:s (many in "jitterbug tempo", combined with for example some creole tunes.
We have played at jazz-clubs, at festivals, aboard steamships, in Finland et cetera. Now we are looking for possibilities to find gigs in for example UK. Your country seems to have quite many festivals. Do you know any of them beeing interested in foreign bands? How to contact them? Any other recommendations?
Thanking you in advance!

Hey Fred,
Found your site while looking for information about the late, Bruce Bakewell. Bruce was my uncle and I can remember his days in the Climax Jazz Band. I was wondering if you know of a site or have any information about Bruce's musical days. I see his children allot and would love to tell then a new story.
Thanks for the great site.
Bill
Have passed your message on Bill, hopefully you'll hear
something soon

I'm a great fan of traditional Jazz (mostly N.O.) and have been constantly impressed with the quality of same in the U.K. Keep it up!
Thanks Tony, but the young people are a bit slow in
joining us, sometimes wonder who will keep it up!
