Hello, Fred, I am enjoying reading your great website. I was given your address by Ron Moores from Florida (formerly of Manchester). My wife and I will be travelling to the UK in June and July, specifically to see the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, but also the Whitley Bay Jazz Festival, and our good friends of the Merseysippi Jazz Band at Sams on Monday night, June 21. All the best, and keep up the good work. Cheers! Vince
Thanks Vince, it's becoming a full time job, but I like it!

Am trying to contact Trevor Hodgson who lives in Canada. He once lived in Morecambe, Lancs and, apparently submitted a meessage to jazzworld fairly recently. Perhaps your visitor's book could help. Stuart Fawcett.
Done! You should now be in contact with Trevor, gather you were best man at his wedding

I am following leads given me by piano player Jeff Barnhart who is a frequent performer in the UK as he is here in the US. I want to attend the Keswick Festival in May, because of Jeff performing and because the Festival itself looks so great. We have not traveled to the UK, and we are unsure about what is the best way to book tickets for the festival and lodging that is close to the venues. Any tips someone is willing to share?
Can anybody help Saundra, I put this item on the News page too.

Did I hear Campbell Burnap (Jazz FM sunday nights) say that an old buddie, Randolph( Randy) Coleville had gone. Last played with Randy at the "El Patio" bar in Manchester-when (?) It was a 'regular' gig with Bob Jones on drums. Still working on the front line. Cheers Randy !
I'm afraid so, there's a tribute to him on this site, see Jazz Extras or click here

Hi Fred, Thanks again for displaying the Manchester Jazz Society programme. I have just read a comment from a guy in Canada having seen my name on it and I would like to contact him if you are able to let me have his email address. He is Glen Page and he had a reminiscence dated 4 Dec 03. I knew him 45 years ago!. I must also say what a professional site you have, far better than many that you have to pay to see! Keep swingin' Jim
Thanks a lot Jim, you are now both in contact - Fred

You've got a nice site. Perhaps you can have a peek at our site www.jurbena.nl. We are an frisco-style jazzband. We try to become as good as the South Frisco Jazzband (we probably will never be as good, but we're trying). Coming month (12, 13 and 14 march) we will play in Sidcup and in London an two places. Perhaps you like to come and listen to our performance. Maybe (and you probably will) you'll enjoy yourself, and like to have us on you're festival? On march 20th we will record a cd with Rob Rhodes (pianist of the SFJB). We are looking forward to this day. When you want a copy of this cd, please send me a reaction. Thanks and good luck. Ed.
Thanks Ed, I'll take a peek

Hello Fred, Thanks for using my new e-mail address. I sorted out the previous glitch with my server but you had the jump on me and your news came thru uninterrupted. Hope that you are through the stress of renovation by now. I had the idea of using my new address to "re-enlist" on your application list and so save you a little time in making the changeover but I could not locate the place on your site to join. In searching I discovered parts of your site which I had missed previously like your primary school history and the long list of links to other jazz sites. One was "Riverwalk Jazz" which I listen to on NPR radio every Sunday night. Well, I am starting to ramble but again, thank you so much for your continued commitment to a great cause.
Thanks Les, The electricians are here for another week. It would also appear that I have deleted the mailing list invite!

Just seen your reply to my e mail dated Jan 16 2004. Yes, I am back in touch with Trevor Hodgson due, to a large extent, to yourself, Fred. We now chew the fat regularly, over the net, and will probably meet up when he makes one of his fairly frequent visits to Morecambe in the Autumn. No doubt he will be "having a blow" with his brother in law, Barrie Marshal, one Sunday lunch at the Lancaster jazz factory on Market St. It is his and Thelma's 50th wedding anniversary on the 29th May, This is what he tells me but he must have miscalculated because, as you said, I was his best man and I am still only 45. Thanks again, Fred, for putting us in touch.
Glad to have been of help Stu, it's one of the more rewarding aspects of this site.

Great web site. this is my first visit, but i will be Back. I am from London an old friend of Les Muscutt and other guys from The Cellar Jazzclub in Ilford and the Black Lion Pub in Plaistow on Friday nights back in the fifties. Now living in Eastern North Carolina. My days of playing (guitar, mediocre) are over because of acute rheumatism. But I still sing occasionally with small combo's. Life changes but stays the same.
Thanks Terry, I hope you manage to contact Les with the details I sent.

Thanks for your article on Randy Colville. I studied clarinet with Randy when he taught at the Northern School of Music in Manchester. I was introduced, through Randy, to Artie Shaw and other jazzers during this period of my life. I hold the happiest of memories studying with Randy, and was very sorry to hear of his untimely death at such a relatively early age. He did come across as a dour scot (as did his father, whom I met once), but underneath there was a tremendous warmth and understated humour. Sincerely, Peter Hanson.
Thanks for that Peter, I'll pass your message on to Joe who wrote the article.

Wonderful site, Fred. What memories, too. Gillian Rowe (my wife of over forty years) was a regular at the Black Lion, Salford, and I knew it well, too. Am still playing clarinet with a French semi-pro outfit called (really) Le Rural Jazz Band! There is plenty jazz activity here in the South West of France. Anybody know if Don Bridgewood is still playing? Cheers to all Moldy Fygges - Angus.
