Hi Fred, Greetings from New Zealand, having lived through the Trad revival of the 50'sregular meetings at Tony's Ballroom in Blackburn, also a pub in Burnley whose name I've long forgotten, plus another pub in Lancaster, Saturday evenings. It's good to see that Jazz is still alive and well in Lancashire. We do have the odd(!) band in 'Godzone' so I'm still able to imbibe a bit of kulture.

Hi Fred,Just a note to let you know the latest info regarding Haslingden Cricket Club. On Thursday February 5th, Mart Rodger is unable to be with us so we are very pleased to have booked a visit from Dave Donohoe's band. They play almost exclusively New Orleans jazz, although they manage to encompass quite a variety of styles within that classification. Very enjoyable if you haven't heard them.Mart Rodger Manchester Jazz will be with us on Thursday 5th March, and first Thursdays thereafter, unless I let you know to the contrary. Regards,Doug Fairbanks

Hi there. My name is Bill Brown and I live in Melbourne Aust. I'm a Scot who was brought up on the Jazz scene in U.K. in the fifties .I've been looking out on the net for traces of that scene and my favourites from back then Sandy Brown, Al Fairweather , Bruce Turner etc. and the better trad bands ,Mike Daniels ,Steve Lane etc. I always liked the 'Merseys' and indeed have just purchased their Lake c.d. from the fifties .Also liked the Saints from Manchester .Keep up the good work Fred will keep in touch .Cheers Bill.

Otherwise the sound quality is great, the photos excellent and the graphics amazing. I am so pleased to have such talented friends. Drop by my page at http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/2350and you'll see we have a lot in common. Started out on Traditional and never left. was most fascinated with the English Trad sounds when Americas had died out. We've come a long way back but the exciting sound still comes from the Isles. Hope to get back to you as soon as I get my sound lined out. GCW

I found this site by accident and enjoyed it. I was born and bred in Birkenhead and left home back in 1956. Does anyone know what happened to the 'Merseysippi Jazz Band" that used to play in Liverpool in the 50s? The last I heard of them was about 25 years ago when I saw an announcement in a San Francisco newspaper that they were playing at the New York Playboy Club. I'll be back to this site again. Ta La!!

I wasn't aware that there was so much interest in traditional jazz in Britain, however I did see a group perform in New Orleans in 1983. I don't remember the name, I believe it was named after an island in the Thames, and at that time, had been playing together for 20 years.

How wonderful to find this link. I have a collection of aprox 4000 recordings mostly big bands and trad jazz. I would enjoy being put on some sort of computer mailing list. I love the English trad bands. I am a fan of Acker Bilk--Peter Allen--Kenny Ball--Chris Barber--and many others. I would enjoy pen pal talk with anybody over there who would like to discuss both British and American trad jazz with possible exchange of tapes on occassion. Have at long last found a copy of the film "Pete Kelly's Blues" which I have been looking for, for many years. Now all I need is "The Gig" to finish my collection of music videos.Thank you for letting me vent, and I apologize for being long winded.Irwin WeinbergBoynton Beach FloridaU.S.A.

We were disappointed that they were sat down during the performance apart from their solo bits as we prefer our jazzmen on their feet.Of course we have been seeing the New Riverside Jazz Band and the Sun Street Stompers each week. Its good to see Delia back from her holiday as she was sorely missed. We hope that Trombone Alan is back with a vengence on Thursday as we lacked someone to knock into on the way to the toilet!!!!Do you go to either performances?
