Sue Parish is a spellbinding vocalist with a passion for jazz singing.
Her three octave vocal range, and her ability to perform in every style from the subtlest of whispers, via a highwire scat vocal through
to a
fullthroated blues roar make for exciting gigs and delighted audiences and bookers.
Sue's varied vocal career has encompassed everything from trad jazz to barbershop quartet work. Her current focus is exploring classic standards, inspired by her favourite singers Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Anita O'Day and Blossom Dearie. She sings songs from the last century, particularly the 30s, 40s and 50s, from bright and breezy swing to sultry latin and all points in between. Her extensive repertoire of over 200 songs includes many classics from the Great American Songbook, but also lesser known material, and pieces not normally performed in a jazz style. She can deliver a torch song with the best of them, but is particularly fond of joyful songs that make you glad to be alive, and send you home dancing.
She sings regularly at venues across the northwest, including engagements at Burnley Blues festival fringe, Lancaster Jazz Festival, Morecambe's Festival of Light and Water, Kendal Jazz Club, Keswick Jazz Festival, restaurant residencies, and and numerous private functions, restaurant and club engagements. She also undertakes guest appearances with other bands.
Sue is as comfortable dealing with a large concert audience as an intimate restaurant gig, and will provide a high calibre musical ensemble appropriate to the occasion. From an intimate duo to a five piece band, from discreet background music to out-loud, up-front swing, you can select the live music you need to make your special occasion even more memorable. If you want a particular song for sentimental reasons, or even a tailor-made lyric to underline the uniqueness of your event, Sue can make it happen.
She also has compèring and PR skills, backed up by a friendly and flexible approach to assist you in making your event a polished, professional and entertaining affair.
