  Transcript of the Will of Alice Barraclough 1605 from Peter Northing  
  In the name of god amen the sixt Day of April Anno Dmi 1605 I Alice Barraclough widow late wiefe of Richard Barraclough late of Hallifax within the Diocese of York mercer dec knowing Death to be certain but the time and houre thereof uncertain. And that great trouble and debate doth oftene arise among the kinfolk and friends by reason that men die intestate. For the avoiding thereof do deliberately advise devise make publish and declare thys testament conteyning herein my last will in manner and forme following.That is to say first and pricipally I commend my soule into the hands of almighty god our redeemer and maker trusting assuredly to be saved by and through the merritts of Jesus Christ my alone saviour and redeemer and my body to be Buriedin the parishe Church of Hallifax amongst the Bodies of the faithfull in Christ there buried trusting with them to have a joyful resurection.
Secondly as concerning my worldly goods cattell chattels rights creditts and debts my will and mind is as followeth. That is to say ffirst and principally as a signe and token of my thankfulness to god for his Blessings towards me I do cast in my mite with the poor widows and doe give and bequeath unto the poore of Hallifax towne foure pounds which I will shall be distributed and divided amongst them at the right and discretion of mine execrs hereafter named
Also I give and bequeath unto my two sonnes Richard and Samuell Barraclough all the house and all the mercery wares wch is yet remayning in my custody of that which I received out of my late husbands shopp in consideration (and)(liewe) of the third part of his wares in the shopp to me belonging
Item I give and bequeath unto Rosamund Haworth my Maid servant xl S
And unto Jennet wife of John (Whiteley) of the (High) Mosse my half sister xx S
And unto Isabell wife of Edmunde (Dison) my half sister xx S
Item. I give and bequeath unto Hester Plattes wife of William Plattes my daughter my gowne clothe unmade and the base sufficient for it and twenty pounds in money. The rest of all my goods cattelle chattells rights creditts and debts whatsoever or whose hands soever the same be, my debts and funerall expenses firstthereof Defraryed I wholly give and bequeath unto my three daughters namely Cicily Wilson wief of John Wilson, Alice Brookesbanke wief of John Brookesbanke and the said Hester Platte wief of William Platt equally to be divided amongst them wch said three daughters Cicily Wilson, Alice Brookesbanke and Hester Platt. I constitute ordaine and make joint executrices of this my last will and testament chargingto see the same faithfully and truly executed performed fullfilled and kept in manner and forme as is aforesaid as my trust is they will.
