I was born in Morley as were my parents and three of my Grandparents.
Between 1851 and 1861 John Sutcliffe, born in Wibsey, moved with his family from Wyke to Churwell in Morley along with his brother Isaac and his family. The Sutcliffe's were non-conformists. John's son Anthony married Sarah Ann Wilson from an old Morley non-conformist family.
Already in Morley, on the Sutcliffe side, were the families of Ventress, who were Quakers from Bilsdale; Walker from Wibsey; Hardcastle from Wakefield; Brook from East Ardsley and Whitaker also from East Ardsley.
My mother's maiden name was Whitehurst, a family name from Cheadle in Staffordshire. My Grandfather Clarence Whitehurst moved to Morley in the early part of the 20th Century. He was born in Cheadle and married Stella Ambler of Churwell in Morley. The Ambler's had moved to Churwell from Whitkirk, between 1871 and 1881.
Already in Morley, on the Whitehurst side, were the families of Nowell, from Dewsbury; and Oliver from Otley.
