The Pennines is one of my favourite areas. Not only because of the scenery, but also the evidence of the start of the industrial revolution and earlier. The whole area is dotted with ruins or examples in various stages of decay or preservation.
The Sutcliffe family almost certainly came from here, from Todmorden and Heptonstall.
Other related family groups which have also come from this area are Radcliffe, from Saddleworth; and Robuck from Penistone and Kirkburton.

I am privileged, to have been commissioned to carry out the research for the Yorkshire ancestors of the Roebuck family that emigrated to America in 1674. The results of this research work, which are detailed on the Roebuck web site has taken this family back to the 13th century, to the Graveship of Holme. You may recognise the name from the "Last of the Summer Wine" television serial. Holmfirth, where the series is set, lies at the very heart of this area, as you can see from the ancient map of the Graveship (on the Roebuck web site). My commission has also included designing the web site, which includes charts, copies of Parish registers, copies of Wills, photographs and maps and I am very proud to include a link to it here. Just click on the roebuck deer.
