The Will of Thomas Ventress (May 1748 Volume 90 Folio 278)

"In the name of God, Amen. I Thomas Ventress of Hinderwell
in the County of
York, husbandman being through the abundant mercy of God, tho'
weak in body,
yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory; do make and
ordain this my
last will and testament in manner and form following, first I
commend my soul
to Almighty God, and to His Son Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer,
Desiring Him to have mercy on my soul, and to pardon and forgive
me all my
sins and offences, and I will that [my] body be decently buried
at the
discretion of my executor hereafter mentioned, Items I give to
my son Thomas
twenty pounds besides that I have given him at Lythe, the stock
and crop
there, items I give to my son Robert and my son William each
one hundred
pounds, items I give to my daughter Mary sixty pounds and half
of the
household stuff, items I give to my beloved wife the other half
of the
household stuff and I will that she have the low rooms in the
new end so long
as the lease continues and I will that she have six pounds a
year paid out of
my land at Lofthouse [Loftus] called the Scotgate and the Bowlby
and at her
decease that my sons and my daughter shall have each of them
twenty pounds
paid them out of that land. All the rest of my lands, real and
personal
estate after payment of debts, legacies and funeral expenses
I give to my son
John Ventress whom I make my sole executor of this my last will
and testament
and do hereby revoke and dis-anull all former and other wills
and testaments
by me heretofore made or declared in witness whereof I have hereunto
set my
hand and seal this twentyeighth Day of March and in the year
of our Lord
