I have included a page of Churches and Chapels within about a four mile radius of Wibsey, although I have also included some not much more distant older ones. To see the page, click the link on the right.  Churches & Chapels

I have also included a page of some old 1850's maps. Just click the link on the right.  Old Maps of Wibsey

Wibsey seems to be something of a 'melting pot'. A lot of my ancestors were either from this area or passed through it.
The Sutcliffe's probably arrived about 1700 from Todmorden or Heptonstall in the Pennines and are probably still there. My own branch moved to Morley between 1861 and 1871.
Other related family names that I am researching in this area are; Barraclough, indigenous to the area; Bateman; Bates from Huddersfield; Broadbent; Collins from Leeds; Hanson; Harwood, probably from the North York Moors; Holmes (two branches); Pollard; Schofield; Smith (anyone researching this name has my sympathy, I am sticking to Wibsey only); Sugden; Tordoff; Walker, probably from Birstall, just down the road; and Wilkinson, another indigenous family.
