Mille-fleurs

[concerts] [cd]

Mille-fleurs is a group of three female vocalists specialising in medieval and early renaissance music.

Founded on their individual performing experiences and research Mille-fleurs have created a unique sound incorporating improvisation to recreate the art of the medieval singer. Their vibrant mix of tone colours animates the music and provides a pageant to be enjoyed by a wide audience.

Working with the renowned harpist, Jan Walters, they performed their inaugural tour in December 1998, which included St George's Hanover Square, Farnham Castle and The Aust Festival.

Concerts

Hollis Berrie

Medieval Christmas music from the twelfth century to the early Renaissance. The songs range from the gentle intimacy of lullabies for the infant Jesus, through joyful polyphonic settings of Christmas texts such as In Dulci Jubilo to the solemnity of plainchant.

Hodie

Christus Natus Est

For the year of Our Lord 2000, Mille-fleurs presents music to celebrate the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ. Many songs are sung from a woman’s viewpoint: a mother’s love and joy in the Christmas lullabies, through to her grief in settings of Stabat Mater

Ave Maris Stella

The Virgin Mary has inspired some of the greatest music throughout the centuries, but especially in the Middle Ages when the cult of Mary was very strong. This programme is a combination of secular stories of the Virgin’s many miracles, sacred polyphony and chant.

The repertoire largely comes from sources sung by women such as the 13th century manuscript from the convent of Las Huelgas and the 12th century music of the abbess Hildegard von Bingen.
