The COLE Story
Relationship

Rebecca Ranson (née COLE) CADE, wife of Thomas CADE jnr

Rebecca Ranson COLE was baptised on 5 September 1847 at Immingham LIN, the daughter of Joseph Wright COLE and Mary (née RANSON) COLE. In 1866, at Louth Methodist Chapel, Rebecca Ranson COLE married George WILES, a farmer of Ludborough LIN, when both were 19 years old. They had three children, Fred WILES, Mary WILES and Emma WILES. After eight years of marriage, George WILES died at Ludborough, LIN, aged 27. Now a widow, Rebecca Ranson WILES married Thomas CADE junior on Christmas Day, 1877, at the Free Methodist Chapel of Grimsby LIN.

Her great, great grandfather, John COLE married Sarah GREGG in 1739 at Great Steeping LIN, a village set in the Fens and near the southern end of the Wolds. Its neighbouring village is Little Steeping and between them runs the River Lymn, which flows from here to the sea at Gibraltar Point. Little is known of John COLE other than he was a farmer and had at least one son named Samuel COLE, born in 1747.

Samuel COLE was not baptised until 1771 at Great Steeping LIN shortly before his marriage to Mary RUTLAND.
