Rebecca Ranson COLE's maternal grandfather was John RANSON senior, an agricultural labourer, born in 1781 at Immingham. On 5 May 1808, he married twenty-four year old Rebecca NEAVE at Killingholme LIN, two miles away from the River Humber.
They had six children:
1. Ann RANSON (1809-) baptised at Habrough LIN.
2. Elizabeth RANSON (1815-1850) baptised at Immingham LIN and married Robert TUTTY in 1841.
3. John RANSON junior (1819-1899) an agricultural labourer, married Mary, and their son, John, became a pupil teacher in Immingham LIN during the early 1850s.
4. George RANSON (1822-1900).
5. Mary RANSON (1825-1854) wife of Joseph Wright COLE, mother of Rebecca Ranson COLE.
6. And last was Neave RANSON (1828-1853) who was given his mother's maiden name. He was only briefly a boot and shoemaker – after his early death, people said his soul wasn't in the job.
John NEAVE senior died in 1848 and was buried in Immingham graveyard where his epitaph can still be read.
Rebecca, his wife, died in the October of 1863 and was buried next to him. She, too, has an epitaph: My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.
