Matthew PARISH married Rachell WAKEFIELD in 1683 at Messingham LIN.
Their children were all baptised in Broughton by Brigg LIN: John PARISH the elder – born before 1703 - my line; Elizabeth PARISH (1684-1689) Charlotte PARISH (1688-1688); Matthew PARISH junior (1689-1730); Mary PARISH (1692-); Mary PARISH (1694-); Elizabeth PARISH (1697-); Thomas PARISH (1700-1776) a blacksmith, and with his second wife, Ann, raised a family of six children in Broughton; Susan PARISH (1700-) baptised the same day as Thomas; and Henry PARISH (1702-) who married Ann FOWLER in 1726 at Snelland, LIN.
Rachell (née WAKEFIELD) PARISH, died in 1720 and ten years later, Matthew PARISH senior died in 1730, both in Broughton by Brigg LIN.
John PARISH the elder, my six X great grandfather and son of Matthew and Rachell (née WAKEFIELD) PARISH, was an agricultural labourer. In 1720, John PARISH the elder married Elizabeth DENTE, the daughter of Thomas and Eliza DENTE. The DENTE family has been traced back to Elizabeth's three X great grandfather, John DENTE who married Joane JOANSON in 1539 at Broughton LIN.
Their seven children were all born in Broughton by Brigg: John PARISH senior (1720-1789), my direct line; Thomas PARISH (1722-); Matthew PARISH (1723-); Elizabeth PARISH (1724-) and Mary PARISH (1724-) baptised the same day and possibly twins; Henry PARISH (1726-) and Thomas PARISH (1728-).
John PARISH the elder died in 1730 and his wife, Elizabeth (née DENTE) died in 1776, both at Broughton by Brigg.
John PARISH senior, my five X great grandfather, was literate, a tailor and married Eliza. Children: John PARISH junior (1744-1816), my direct line; Mary PARISH (1750-); Henry PARISH (1752-1752); Thomas PARISH (1754-) married Mary KIRK in 1778; Ann PARISH (1755-); Elizabeth PARISH (1759-) was literate and married John WINN of Gainsborough LIN in 1784 and Henry PARISH (1761-1761).
John PARISH senior died in April 1789. His wife, Elizabeth had already died seven years previously, in 1782.
John PARISH junior, my four X great grandfather, married Ann GOATES in September 1772. Ann's mother was Mary (née BURKILL). Ann's father was Jonas GOATES junior (1730-), the son of Jonas GOATES senior, a churchwarden and husbandman.
The literate John PARISH junior and his wife, Ann had eleven children: Mary PARISH (1773-1779); Susanna PARISH (1774-after 1851) married George CHAFOR in 1793; Ann PARISH (1775-); Thomas PARISH (1777-); Ann PARISH (1779-1785); Mary PARISH (1781-) and in 1795 had an illegitimate child, Sarah PARISH, who died when only seven days old; William PARISH (1783-1865); John PARISH (1784-1859) a farmer and in 1809 married a housekeeper, Ann NEWELS; Thomas PARISH (1785-1844) husband of Elizabeth (née BEELEY) PARISH - my direct line; Ann PARISH (1790-1864) married John CAMPBELL in 1809 and both were literate; Elizabeth PARISH (1793-1850) married Charles MARSHALL in 1812 and they both were literate.
John PARISH junior was buried on Thursday, 6 June 1816 at Broughton and his wife, Ann (née GOATES) died in 1832 at Stainfield LIN.
Thomas PARISH, my three X great grandfather, son of John junior and Ann (née GOATES) PARISH, was baptised 7 August 1785 in Broughton by Brigg. He was a yeoman (farmer) when he married Elizabeth BEELEY in 1815 at Bottesford, LIN and they both signed the marriage register.
All children were baptised in Broughton by Brigg: Thomas PARISH junior (1816-1824); William Beeley PARISH (1817-1867) - my direct line; John PARISH (1819-); Henry PARISH (1820-after 1851) an agricultural labourer and lived with Ann, his wife, at Rose House in Broughton; Elizabeth PARISH (1822-after 1851) literate and married David STEEPER, a woodman; Mary Anne PARISH (1823-); Susannah PARISH (1825-) who by the time she was twenty-five (in 1851) was living in the Wrawby Workhouse and described as a pauper; and Charlotte PARISH (1827-1827).
Elizabeth (née BEELEY), wife of Thomas PARISH senior, died two days after the birth of her last daughter, Charlotte, who died shortly after her mother, aged one month. Thomas PARISH senior, widower of Elizabeth, did not remarry and died seventeen years later, in 1844.
