CADE FAMILY HISTORY

Children:
1. Richard CADE (1814-1881) a literate cottager, married in 1838 at Bilsby, Jane POCKLINGTON, the daughter of Levi and Susan.

2. James CADE (1817-1881) was an agricultural labourer and married Ann GRANT in 1841, at Bilsby. They had ten children: Emily Cade GRANT, their ‘natural’ daughter, was born in 1840, married Preston ROBINSON, a blacksmith and both had literary skills; Elizabeth Ann (1842-); Hephzibah (1844-1886) married William PANTON, a literate, agricultural labourer, and lived with their progeny at Brickyard Road, Alford; Epton (1845-) who was given his maternal grandmother's maiden name; Thomas (1846-1922) married Mary J PARKINSON and lived and died in Mary Jane (1848-); John (1851-1903) and is thought to have married in 1879, Rose Anna; Joseph (1853-1911) married Hannah MOODY and he, also, died in Leeds; Richard (1856-1897); and Sarah Ellen (1858-). Ann, wife of James, died three years after their last child, Sarah Ellen, was born. For his second wife, James wisely chose a laundress from Alford named Ellen SHAW and they had another three children: Charles James (1873-1936) married Annie THORNDIKE; Louisa (1875-1876) and Alice Maud (1877-). James CADE expired at the age of sixty-five.

3. Charlotte CADE (1819-1903). Married William PARRISH in 1849, emigrated to Ontario, Canada, died in 1903 in the township of Fenelon, Victoria, Canada and was buried at the Union Cemetery, Oshawa, Ontario.

4.
Thomas CADE senior (1820-1888), my direct line.

5. Jane CADE (1823-1909) married William BELL, a farmer of 20 acres. They lived in Mumby and in their early 60's still had three unmarried children living at home. Jane was with her father, John, when he died.

6. & 7. Mary CADE and Zachary CADE were both baptised in 1825 but the parish register does not refer to them as twins. Zachary emigrated to Ontario, Canada. He named his farm ‘Farlesthorpe’ and raised a family there with his wife, Mary née PLACE.

8. John CADE junior (1827-aft 1861) married Rebecca LOWE at Huttoft in 1847 and was obviously a man with aspirations when he gave his occupation as “in farming business” and was able to sign the register. The 1851 Census soon cut him down to size and merely described him as an agricultural labourer. They had two children: Sarah born in Grimsby and Ann born two years later in Farlesthorpe. John’s second marriage was to Elizabeth HASTINGS (born cir 1844) and they had four more children. John also emigrated to Ontario, Canada and raised some of his family there.

9. Eliza CADE (1829-).

10. Joseph CADE (1831-).

11. Sarah CADE (1833-) a dressmaker.

12. And last but not least was Little Ann (1840-) and she crept under…….

John CADE senior died 21 July 1875 at Farlesthorpe aged 81 years. Elizabeth, widow of John senior, died 15 July 1876 at Mumby aged 78 years. Both were buried at Farlesthorpe St Andrews.
