John McCord

Born: Orangeburg SC, February 26th 1973
College: Cornell (IVY)
Originally
from South Carolina, John attended Monroe College in New York before
transferring to Cornell. He sat out his junior year and played just
one year for the Ivy League university, making an immediate impact and
being named to the All-Conference 1st Team.
John followed up college honours in his first season as a pro with Thames
Valley being named MVP of the 1998 BBL All-Star game. After another
season with Thames Valley John joined Edinburgh for the 99/00 season
before returning to the Tigers in 2000. He has made the All-Stars in
all four of his BBL seasons and has never been out of the Top 10 in
scoring - ending the 00/01 season at #1 with 25.2 points a game.
In John's first season with the Jets he averaged 22.1 points (#4 in
BBL). 7.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists, shooting 59% from the field and
75% from the foul line. He was named Player of the Month in March 2002
and picked up the MVP award after the Jet's 92-83 Championship Final
win over Sheffield at Wembley in April.
Named by fans as Jets MVP after 02/03 seaoson and was new coach Paul
Smith's first signing for 03/04.
