Kingfisher pellets

I didn't know, until I was shown, that kingfishers bring up pellets of indigestible material in much the same way as owls. The big difference, of course, is the diet! Kingfisher pellets are white and transparent remains of fish bones and scales, held together by mucus. When dry the pellets crumble easily when touched, unlike owl pellets that are firmly bound.

The pellet that I was given came from South Walsham Broad in Norfolk. Here's what the contents look like when neatly mounted by David Skeet.
