Tom was diagnosed terminally ill at the age of six, and although his tumour is not malignant, neurologists have been unable to stop it growing, and are unable to remove it due to it's location on the brain stem. Tom has undergone two operations already, one of which was the first of it's kind in Europe, and two courses of radiation treatment, only to be told each time that the treatment had made no difference, and there was nothing more that could be done for him. There is still a chance that Tom's life might be saved. Tom's family have recently been in contact with Dr Patrick Kelly, a pioneering neurosurgeon in America who specialises in the treatment of children. He is currently reviewing Tom's scans and Progress reports, and the family are waiting to hear whether Dr. Kelly thinks he will be able to help Tom. We have set up this appeal, which has so far raised £2000 and funded the initial consultation. We will need to raise another £40 000 if the operation is given the go-ahead. My
colleagues and I are trying to raise money for Tom, a twelve year old
boy who has a brain tumour. We work with his mother, Jane, and we have
all found ourselves inspired by Tom's strength, which has united us
to try and make possible an operation which could save his life.
