Fund Raising Evening at the Pirelli Social Club in Newport on July 6th 2000
The fund raising evening at the Pirelli Social Club in Newport was a great success, with over 200 people enjoying the evening and helping to raise money for Tom's fund. Vocalists Lisa Donavon along with local cabaret band The Elastic Band, comprising Don, Jonah, Paul and Rob provided first class entertainment for the evening.
A total of £1104.71 was raised on the night towards the fund, through entrance fees, sale of food, donations and a raffle.
First prize of, 2 tickets to The Tina Turner concert in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium was won by K. Butt, however as he was working a night shift on the evening of the concert he auctioned them to the highest bidder. Bidding was tense with two local men, Richard Lewis and Ian Leith bidding strongly against each other. After an exciting battle of the wallet Richard Lewis finally secured the tickets with a bid of £108.00 for the pair. He and his wife Steph (an avid Tina fan) had a great evening at one of Tina's last gigs.
Donations on the evening included:
£8.65 from the Crop Shop salon in Newport (The girls donated the contents of their tip box)
£26.40 from Ladyhill Day Centre, Aberthaw Road Newport (residents of one of the wards made a collection)
£64.90 from a bucket collection at The Ringland Labour Club Newport
£113.96 from Mrs Jill Bright, a regular donator to the fund
£26.30 from Mary (Mary insisted that as the guest were leaving they either paid to exit or had to give her a kiss)
