Jef began playing the tenor horn at the age of 5 and, after a later change to tuba, he became a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and also the National Youth Brass Band of Wales.
At the age of fourteen Jef joined the famous Fodens band and became one of only three players to do so at such a young age.
In recent years Jef has changed to the euphonium and has occupied chairs with the United Co-op Band (Crewe), Point of Ayr, Williams Fairey, and British Telecom.
Jef has recently taken over the baton from his father, Roy, who had held the position of Musical Director since 1985. Jef had been co-Musical Director with Roy for some time and has regularly demonstrated his ability by steering the band to several contest successes.
