What is punkscene.co.uk?
punkscene.co.uk is a kind of promotional outfit set up to help decent punk bands in and around the Midlands, Leicester.  We do this by giving out CDs at gigs, putting gigs on, promoting through the internet, selling bands' CDs, reviewing bands and anything else we can think of.

History
In 2004, Despondent were playing a gig with a couple of other bands and thought it would be a cool idea to give away some CDs at the gig with tracks from all the bands on that night.  They ended up putting a couple of bands on the compilation who they were going to be playing with in the near future.  Within a few months this spiralled into being a large compilation and a website was set up.  Later on, we got approached to see if we would do some CD reviews and recently we have been putting on monthly gigs.  We are in the process of setting up a distro and in the future hope to be able to act in a similar way to a record label.

Can my band get on punkscene.co.uk?

If you are from the midlands, class yourselves as a punk band and aren't really rubbish, then yes! Get in touch.

Can you get us a gig?

We put on one gig a month and can only afford to put on one out of town band cos we like to pay people a fair amount of petrol money.  So we might be able to put you on, but spaces are quite limited, but get in touch anyway to show your interest cos if we can't put you on one of our gigs, we know quite a few other promoters who might be able to put you on a gig in the area.

Can you give us a review?

Sure, we love hearing new music and will give you our honest opinion.  Don't forget to include a bit of info about your band, it helps us understand the overall picture of your band.  See the contact page for an address to send to.

About the reviews
All our reviews are entirely honest and unbiased.  We take no bribes for good reviews, are not affiliated with any company and take all the music at face value.  It is worth noting the following points though.  Although we have a very eclectic taste in music, we are bound to prefer some styles more than others.  If we don't like a record, we'll say so, and we'll say why; it doesn't mean that we're right, but it is our opinion.  If we've given you a negative review, it's nothing personal we just didn't like it; I'm sure you're excellent live, but we're reviewing a CD here.  The pictorial rating system is there to emphasize that the rating is our opinion and our reaction to the music presented.
