My Mind's Weapon - A Negation of All Our Hopes

1. A Sense of Wonder
2. At Least You're Not Dead
3. Six-O-Two
4. Lucky Like Kokura

Aberdeen's My Mind's Weapon possess the ability to structure their songs in that clever way that you kind of know what's coming up any second, and when it actually happens it's really satisfying. Boost this with a good quantity of surprising guitar solos, sudden tempo changes and dark breakdowns and the result is a CD full of very well-crafted songs.

I've been bombarded recently with a load of very generic metal and this is completely refreshing. If you're into the hard stuff then this band are going to push all the right switches for you, it's got harsh, cutting vocals in a variety of styles to tear your heart apart, occasional harmonic choruses for a dose of melody, heavy downtuned guitars that chug away, pull off great solos and create some awesome textures and it's got technical drums that don't draw too much attention to themselves but work with the music to make an ear bleeding, mind melting blend of metal and hardcore.

This one's going to be in my car stereo for a while.
