Deathstar Preview - Demo 2007
1. Together
2. Serpentine
When this Deathstar Preview promo CD begins it sounded a little like 80s electro
group Time Zone, and by the time it ended it sounded like Placebo. It's an odd
journey, but a mixture between those two groups sums up their sound quite well
and creates an intense texture similar to Rachel Stamp.
Rhythmic powerchords, disco drums, ringing solos and retro synths combine with
the rich vocals to make a sound that is as camp as Christmas and as
club-friendly as a masochist seal. Together is the more original track of the
two with a distinctive sound of its own, but Serpentine is a better written song
with a better hookline and shows their ability to create an atmosphere.
This is a good little CD, if a little on the tame side for me, but nonetheless
worth a listen.
