Kensifella - Demo 2007
1. Weaned from the Scene
2. Good For Nothing
3. Son of a Gun
4. Caged
This is stoner-ska-rock apparently, whatever the hell that means. I was fully
expecting a CD full of uninspiring songs about getting high, thankfully I was
proved wrong. It kicks off with an odd mix of reggae and double speed hardcore a
little like Sublime or King Prawn with typical rocksteady rolled "R"s amongst
the words.
The rest of the tracks are a whole lot more rock 'n' roll with gruffer,
distorted singing and much more headbanging opportunities. Which is their
natural style though? On a short CD like this you'd normally expect the first
track to typify their style, but the rest of the tracks bear no resemblance to
it. Anyway I'm all for eclecticism but is does kind of leave me feeling a bit
confused about what I've just listened to.
It's good, not the finished article right yet, but they've sown the seeds of a
good style with this CD - if they can lose that silly stoner-ska-rock monicker that
will alter people's preconceptions of them.
