Last time I heard Desperado, I remember liking them, but finding their tracks a little samey. This time we seem to have a much more balanced mix between shouty rock and anthemic punk, plus some weirdness every now and again for good measure. The screaming reminds me much of Refused, as do some of their build-ups, offering a similar creativity in the music. There's certainly a darker side that has come out of Desperado in the past year or so, and that climate creates quite a specific flavour for this CD. There's more minor keys, more personal lyrics, more experimentation, more melodies and more screams - all of which I thoroughly approve of. This disc keeps me hooked throughout; just when I think I'm about to get bored of the music they kick me in the bollocks with a new idea and I'm right back in there.
From reading the message on the inlay, they've worked hard at this and this CD means a lot to them. This is the music of an experienced band who know exactly what they're doing, which is creating dramatic and excellent music.
