I fucking love skatepunk I do. Give me a fast beat and some shouty melodies and
I'll be in the pit with the rest of them.
So from the off It'll be fairly obvious that Tripdash will push my buttons with
their brand of melodic hardcore similar to Set Your Goals with added technical
tightness and occasional metal licks.
For the most part though, the first 3 tracks wash over me a little, with the
interest lying solely in the virtuosity of the technical elements and some
decent lyrics. In these tracks there's some great chord sequences going on
underneath the music that are screaming out for some brain-melting melodies, but
Tripdash underachieve in this area and spit out something quite monotonous and
mediocre. 'The Strength of Meaning' and 'Mary Whitehouse is Dead' are a
different story though, where they manage to combine the intricate rhythms and
riffs with some uplifting hooks that give the music so much more impact and make
the words jump straight out at you.
Give these talented guys a spin; it's not perfect just yet, but there's some
impressive moments.
