Bathers News

18th May 2005

The UNOFFICIAL CDS section is open again so please refer to the list by CLICKING HERE

That`s the best I can do in the meantime!

17th May 2003

The LYRICS page now contains the lyrics to all the Bathers albums including the previously unpublished lyrics to Unusual Places to Die.

Please note that the OTHER CDS section of the site will be closed on the 31st May and no orders will be accepted after that date. If the band ever decide to release any new material or tour then I may re-open it if there is anything new to offer or if there is any reason for new fans to come on board.

I simply cannot afford to run it presently as there is no cash flow and I find myself putting out large sums which take many months to recoup and as I do not work due to health I do not have the cash to continue in this way.

Sorry folks!!!!!

If you want to order more than 8 cds I can still arrange this and you can see what is available by clciking HERE

07th December 2002

Added a clip of the STV vcd for downloading to check you can play it ok and have a look at the picture quality acheived on a cd rom (it will look EXACTLY the same on the cd rom version)

Just click on the cd cover of the STV VCD on the OTHER CDS page. Or HERE

05th November 2002

At last some news...........there will be live dates and a new studio album in spring 2003. There is also planned the re-release of Sweet Deceit with alternate takes on some of the tracks (this is a bit vague at the moment). 2 New live CD`s have been released in the OTHER CDS section of the site. A completely unreleased recording from the Kelvingrove Baby tour. And the first night from the Tron gigs in 1999.

08thNovember 2001

Demos Volume IV & V along with King Tuts 2001 are now well & truly ON SALE and full details can be found in the OTHER CDS section. The MP3 samples are now in place and working.

CGT has hinted at a possible release of a recording which is a departure from The Bathers (with a different band????). I have no further clues but watch this space as they say.

I believe work is now underway for the official re-release of Sweet Deceit (been saying that for ages haven`t I ???).

I have been promised an interview and photos by a doctor in Japan who interviwed Chris way back in the Unusual places era so again watch this space.

Every time I change the graphics on the site or any other major overhaul I keep losing the last few messages from the end of the guestbook. This happens because the messages are stored on the server wheras everything else that makes up the site is uploaded by myself. So in order to save the guestbook I should download it, make changes, then upload it but I keep forgetting. So all those profound statements that you spent days composing get lost. Sorry about this!

28th October 2001

Apparently the gig at the Kashmir Klub was a resounding success and in case anyone is wondering why the WEBCAST button is still on the front page it`s because the gig will be available shortly in the archives at the Kashmir Klub website.

Work is now well under way on Demos Vol 4 and 5 and they are complete except for artwork. Watch this space!!!!

Any orders for The new bathers album "Desire regained" which are made via the site will contain a free copy of the TWENTY TWO single featuring the unreleased track Raphaela.

I hear there is a possibility of some more live gigs early in the new year and a possible return to the Kashmir Klub.

07th October 2001

Friday night at King Tut`s in Glasgow was amazing............there was an almost capacity crowd which I reckon would have been full if one of the bands hadn`t pulled out(obviously the venue was missing all the fans of The Lush Rollers who had bought tickets)

The band are now down to 5 piece which is:-

CGT........Vocal,Acoustic
Hazel Morrison........Drums,Vocal
Ken McHugh.......Bass
Callum McNair.........Lead Guitar
Robert Henderson.....Keyboards & Trumpet

Prior to the gig I had been told "a few old numbers have been added" but little did I expect what was to come.

Every song had been totally re-arranged in the same vein as the new album and Robert Henderson's keyboard style is simply gorgeous.

The set started with Chris on guitar singing "The Honeysuckle Rose" albeit a very "mellow" version and cleverly dissolved that into an excellent version of "Thrive"..........next up was "The Leopards" and was probably one of the more "recognisable" songs of the evening.

A song I never reckoned sounded quite right live followed next and this time the "treatment" worked superbly and a fine rendition of "Last night I loved you" was well received by the crowd in what was by now a very hot & sweaty venue.

By now the gig was in fine flow and "Unusual places to drive" was simply beautiful followed by a slow version of "Never too late" .............Belle Sisters up next and to be honest I have never heard a bad version yet of this song but it too had enough changes to make it more interesting.

What followed must have puzzled everyone as the intro playing was just totally strange, then as the band kicked in it was just as the first line arrived that you realised what was playing........"Fermina Fair" ......again totally revamped and sounding lovely and fresh.

Angel on Ruskin........how far can they take this song? Every version leaves you thinking "that was the ultimate" but NO they keep coming back and it just seems to get better and better........Hazels voice always shines on this one but tonight it reached totally uncharted territory.........WOW!!!!

Captives starts with the usual big up tempo sound then it too turns mellow for another re-arranged gem..........Callum`s manic guitar playing is appreciated by all and the band finish the set to rapturous applause and the usual polite requests for MORE.(!)

First song of the encore is simply the best ever version of Tequila Mockingbird and the audience think so too judging by the subdued "wow`s" at the end of the song.

If love could last finds Hazel playing a major vocal role in the 2nd half of the song and to me sounds much better than the male backing vocals used on earlier live versions of this song and this version sounds as good as the one on the new album.

Kelvingrove baby and a "manic" version of Moonage Daydream with some psychedelic keyboards from Robert finish off a totally successful gig which many were saying was the best ever Bathers performance and I have to agree that my desire has well and truly been regained.

Superb performance from what appeared to be 5 extremely happy musicians

The line up will be Chris, Iain White on violin, Robert Henderson on trumpet. Nice to see Iain popping in again!

All sorts of updates to the site.Angel on Ruskin from Cottier is now a Real Player slide show with pictures but its not great and the music will finish before the pictures do.

04th June 2001

A number of changes have been made to the site but the important one is that the mp3`s are now in a section of their own called DOWNLOADS which you will see to the left. The files are now ready for downloading and are no longer stored at e groups. There is also some more streaming audio in the shape of a BBC RADIO SCOTLAND interview with Janis Forsyth from 1997.

An OFFICIAL CD section has been added with samples from each of the Bathers LP`s.

You can now reach this site by keying www.thebathers.co.uk or www.thebathers.net

I heard on the grapevine today that Perpetual Adoration has been added to the new bathers compilation LP.

The ULTIMATE Chris Thomson Interview:- Is there a question you always wanted to ask Chris about the Bathers ? Send 3 questions to me by e mail and I will send all the questions to Chris and print the results here. I don't guarantee you will get a straight answer to ALL the questions but you will get some sort of answer!

18th may 2001

The new Bathers album has unfortunately been delayed until mid August at earliest. The record company wanted a few small changes and a new running order.

As you know I have recently moved house and I am pretty well organised now and should be re-commencing work on The Demos Vol II  in the next few days.

In future the recent news items like this will be put at the top to save you scrolling all the way to the bottom
