To a very great degree my choice of holidays has always been determined by my interest in photography. I like to go somewhere that is photogenic - and there is no lack of places that meet this criterion.
It has taken me to Amsterdam, Bangkok (what a dump!), Egypt, Finland, Italy, Malawi, Norway, Portugal, the Soviet Union, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, Yugoslavia - as well as to relatives and friends in Canada, California and Germany - in this last case, many times!.
In 1990 I went on my first walking holiday. My interest in walking is confined to taking walking holidays abroad. I soon get bored sitting on beaches frying in the sun, and take no pleasure in walking ankle deep in mud wrapped to the eyeballs in waterproofs. So walking in the UK is out! Walking is an ideal alternative for me. Plenty of opportunities for photography! Many of the walking holidays I have taken have been under the auspices of Ramblers Holidays. They have taken me to Austria (Salzkammergut and upper Inn valley), Burgundy, the Canary islands of La Gomera and Tenerife, Italy, the Atlas mountains of Morocco, the High Tatras of Poland, the Czech Republic, Madrid, Majorca, Minorca, Southern Greece, the Greek islands of Crete, Cyprus, Samos, Kithnos and Serifos, Portugal (the Alentejo), Spain (Andalucia and Galicia), Nepal, New England (in the Fall), Bulgaria and Turkey's Lycian Way - to name but a few!
In more recent times I have also taken walking holidays with HF Holidays. With them I have been to the Loire valley in France and to Sintra in Portugal.
Some of the pictures I have taken during these holidays can be seen in my Picture Library.
