John Perfect at Longdon, Spring 1954

John Perfect at Longdon, Spring 1954

John Perfect was an exact contemporary of mine in the 'Class of 1950'. In 1955 he went on to Birmingham School of Art, where he used to see the recently retired Fleetwood Walker. Much of John's career was spent in teaching at Wolverhampton University.

Here is one example of his work, "Friends in Aston Park returning to K.E.A.":

John tells a lovely story about this wonderfully evocative painting. He did the original in February, 1955 at the request of Alec Pearson, the Art Master. It was then on display on an easel in the Art Room for a while. Later John gave it to a girlfriend who married a wealthy American. As a result the original now hangs on the wall of a posh house in Northridge, California!

Recently, John went back to Aston Park to do it again. The park had changed so much that, instead, he had to do it from memory. Not bad, after more than fifty years!

John's time at Longdon Hall, in the Spring of 1954, produced another masterpiece. While we were there, I asked John to do me a painting of ‘The Desert Fox’. When I showed it to him fifty years later, he did it again! Here they are:
