Information is held in the Perkins Index in the following format:

Column 1
Forename(s)

Within a given forename and its variants, filing is chronological by event. Where several events are known to relate to one individual they are grouped together, and filed by each in turn.

Column 2
Parent(s) / Spouse

Forename(s) only are used for father; maiden name of mother is included when known.

Column 3
Event

The following single letter abbreviations are used:

A - Adult baptism
B - Birth
C - Baptism
d - Death
D - Burial
F - First known child
    (in lieu of marriage)
I - Apprentice
    indenture
L - Marriage licence
M - Marriage
N - Census
O - Obituary
P - Probate
R - Miscellaneous
    Reference
W - Will
Z - Witness

Column 4
Age

In years, unless followed by 'm' (months), 'w' (weeks), or 'd' (days).


Column 5
Date

For example the 15th July 1779 is shown as 1507779 (Millennium omitted)

Column 6
Location

Parish, wherever possible

Column 7
County

Chapman county codes are used

Column 8
Source
