It's been a quiet, uneventful month.
As school archivist I was involved in 'meeting and greeting' the son of former second master Stanley Calvert, and was the grateful recipient of photographs from the era when the school was evacuated to Ashby de la Zouch during the Second World War. In addition, I continue to inflict my 'History of Aston - part II' talks on a small, but surprisingly enthusiastic, bunch of 15 year olds!I also went along to see the exhibition marking the 75th anniversary of the move of King Edward's School, Birmingham from its city centre premises in New Street to its present location at Edgbaston. It quite put my 'Aston 125' exhibition to shame.
The highlight of the month was our family Christmas party in Abbot's Langley, delayed by the atrocious weather at that time.
An 'up market' family coffee morning was held at Kilworth House Hotel with only the 'Jam-Jams' present, the 'Fossils' having a better offer at Cosford Air Museum. ('Fossils' - Friends of Scouts, etc. 'Jam Jams' - Joy and Margaret, Jim and Mary!)
A start to the gardening season has been made both outside, where some severe pruning was recommended and a 'plant dance' undertaken, and in the greenhouse where the purchase of a propagator was supposed to ensure successful fuchsia cuttings, a claim yet to be proven.
My slide digitisation project continues relentlessy but painfully slowly. An unexpected benefit is to be reminded of some interesting holidays and some long forgotten photographs which are quite good, even though I say so myself. It is just a pity that I don't have enough web space (50MB) to put even more of them in my picture library.
Participation in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch was marginally more successful than last year: three feral pigeons and a blackbird!
