Flag break is a very important part of the daily ritual of a Scout camp.

Campfire Circle, York's Wood

Of the multifarious activities of Scouting, the evening sing song round a camp fire was always my favourite.

Bob a Job Week 1959

Just to try and bring a bit of novelty to what had become a national institution, we set up a 'job exchange' on Hodge Hill Common.

Gargoyle, York's Wood

Though York's Wood has long since closed as a Scout camp site, the gargoyles which lined its main drive are still in situ. They were brought from the roof of the Lewiss's building when the camp site first opened in the 1920s.

Investitures are important milestones in a Scout's progress through the Movement. John Hobbins was suffering from TB at the time he was due to become a Senior Scout - so we went to him!

Probably the Scout activity best known to the public - after camping - is the 'Gang Show':

*In the Queen's Jubilee Honours of June 2002, Dr Keith Baughan (as he had become in 1965) was awarded the O.B.E. for his 'services to the telecommunications industry' in which he was Vice President, Research at Nokia.

Memories of all the activities that make up Scouting are as nothing compared with those of the people.
