There's a scene in Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta "Ruddigore" where, at midnight, the Murgatroyd ancestors step down from their portraits to sing a chorus.

I often wonder whether, in the dead of night, Aston's first five head masters do something similar in 'Big School' and reminisce about their hundred year stewardship of what, for anyone who has known it, is a remarkable institution.
