The atmosphere is informal and friendly – after all this is a holiday as well as a learning experience! Every morning you will learn basic garden design- enough to enable you to design your own garden and most afternoons you will have free to laze or discover the area. 

During the course, we will discuss:- design principles, site survey and analysis, measuring techniques, rough plans, line and form, and how to draw a plan to scale.

If that sounds complicated – it isn’t! Together we can create a design for your garden, taking your ideas and turning them into a workable plan.

Do I need any experience? No, only a willingness to take on board new ideas.

Do I need any equipment? No, everything you need will be provided, 
from pencils to a book on planting.

Will I be so relaxed, I’ll forget everything when I return home? In your garden design pack, there will be a manual detailing everything covered on the course, so that in the comfort of your own home, you can read through everything we discussed on the course. 

Will I be able to design my garden while on the course? The honest answer to that is – not entirely. I suggest that you bring a rough sketch of your garden with you, drawing in everything you want to keep in the garden. If you roughly “pace out” your garden, it will give us a rough idea of its size. Photos are also useful when designing, especially when designing at a distance. With this information, you will be able to go home with a rough design and plenty of ideas for your garden. When you have surveyed and measured your garden at home and drawn it to scale, you may have to adjust your design but designs do and should take time. The course is flexible, so that everyone can work to their own pace.
