Getting to us

The Chasewater Railway is easily accessed by most transport systems, being close to the main arterial routes of the M6, M6t & A5. It is also well signposted from the main routes. There are 2 staffed stations on the route, both with ample parking, but the main site and leisure facilities are based at Brownhills West

Trains:

Trains operate half hourly between Birmingham, Walsall & Rugeley, but as the NationalRail service operates to the west of Brownhills, there will be a need to change at Hednesford or Cannock for a bus service to Brownhills.

Intending customers from the north can use the Crewe > Stoke > Stafford > London `London Midland` service to Rugeley, where the service to Cannock does tend to connect.

SUNDAYS – the above does not apply on Sundays as neither the London or Cannock services run coherently. Passengers should paln their journey carefully, travelling via Wolverhampton or Birmingham. There is also no bus service between Cannock & Brownhills on Sundays

Buses:

There are numerous ways of getting to the railway, but only 1 bus service is within ¼ of a mile of the railway. Other buses serve Chasetown or stop on the A5 at Brownhills.

BROWNHILLS:

Services 32 & 33 operate adjacent to Brownhills West station. The bus stops are located on the south side of the motorway bridge. After leaving the bus, head over the motorway bridge. On the right hand side are the loco sheds of the railway. Take the next right turn and follow that path across the tracks  to the station entrance.

These services combine to provide a 15 minute service (Monday to Saturday) between Hednesford & Walsall until 1800, then hourly. Journey time is approximately 35 minutes

Service X56 This service  terminates at the Rising Sun roundabout on the A5. It will also call at the bus stop at the end of the country park at pool Rd. From these points, the Country park and railway are directly over the motorway. Follow the brown signs to access the park.

This service operates from Birmingham City centre and operates every 30 minutes during the daytime (Mon – Sat), and hourly during evenings and Sundays. The journey time from Birmingham is approximately 55 minutes.

CHASETOWN:

Unfortunately, no scheduled service pass close to Chasewater Heaths station as it is on the outskirts. However buses do pass within ½ mile of the end of the line at Chasetown. The buses listed operate from the end of Church Str, at the Queen Str, High Str & Highfields Rd Junction. This can be accessed by using the pedestrian overbridge just beyond the station .

Service 60 runs between Cannock, Hednesford, Chasetown & Lichfield. The service operates every 30 minutes until 1800, then every hour evenings. There is no Sunday service. Journey time from Cannock is 30 mins, journey time from Lichfield is 20 minutes

Service 61 runs between Lichfield, Chasetown, Brownhills & Walsall. This service operates every 30 minutes until 1730. There is no Sunday service. Journey time from Lichfield is 25 minutes, journey time from Walsall is 35 minutes

Service 395 runs between Burntwood, Brownhills & Walsall. This service operates every 30 minutes until 1800. There is no evening and Sunday service, but the route is covered by service 394B. Journey time to Walsall is 40 minutes.

Service 394B runs between Burntwood, Brownhills & Walsall. In addition, this service operates along the A5 to the Rising Sun roundabout. This service operates hourly during evenings and Sundays. Journey time is approximately 40 minutes

To drive:

As described at the top, the Chasewater railway and Country park is centrally situated in the Midlands close to the arterial road network, which makes getting to it by road the best option. The M6 is the main North >South route, with the A5 running East>West. From any direction, head for `Brownhills – A5`. When on the A5, follow the brown signs to the Chasewater Country Park and railway.
