Bodmin Library is situated at the top of Fore Street in what is now a  conservation area, in the former County Town of Cornwall.  The Town itself can be traced back to AD 530 where it was once a religious centre. Bodmins founders were St Guron and St Petroc. The Library is one of the many imposing buildings in this historic town which was constructed during the wealthy Victorian period.  The construction of the Free Library along with others within the county was funded by one of Cornwall's greatest benefactors, J. Passmore Edwards in the mid eighteen hundreds.  Bodmin Library's foundation stone was laid by J. Passmore Edwards in 1896 and the Library's construction was completed  a year later in 1897 when it was then opened to the general public.  The Library boasts an imposing hand built staircase leading to the upper floor.
