The BCV are one of the North West's best known and respected conservation groups.   Established over 20 years ago, it contains members of all ages who,  like yourself are interested in the care and maintenance of the local environment. 

The group are affiliated to the BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers)  and carry out all types of practical conservation tasks

GOG is a network of community groups in Bolton that develop community food gardens, growing and cookery courses, sustainable energy and childcare projects.
Anybody can get involved in growing their own healthy food in this volunteer run and managed network.  There are currently community plots in Westhoughton (2), Halliwell, Farnworth and Great Lever.  There are plans for new gardens in Breightmet, Astley Bridge and Heaton.

Millennium Greens Programme

This is a new initiative from the countryside commission.  It aoms to provide at least 250 communities with the chance to create their own breathing space.   The scheme is supported with £10 million from the Millennium Commission and is endorsed by organic gardening expert Bob Flowerdew.   (Who all Gardeners World viewers will know as the man who can do 1,001 useful and attractive green things in the garden with old   car tyres)
