Special Abilities
- Wallcrawling. Halfings can verbally Deny the
effects of any spell aimed at them once per day. This power
only functions within the Five Shires.
Fergel was born in Eastshire
within the Five Shires and lived a life of no real note until
the weeks shy of his nineteenth birthday. He was a halfling of
only moderate talents, easily distracted and prone to over indulgence
in whatever life had to offer. On the day in question, Fergel
had been assigned to help prepare the feast to celebrate his grandfather's
one-hundreth birthday. Unfortunately, he paid more attention to
the charms of his female cousins and neglected his work. The results
were devastating; Fergel's grandfather and fully half his guests
were struck down with food poisoning, almost unheard of in halfling
society. Fergel was hauled in chains before the
Council of Clan Leaders [three of whom were still suffering
the after-effects of Ferguls repast]. He was stripped of
his family name, banished from the Five Shires and told never
to return. Fergel was escorted to the border and turned loose
with just the clothes he stood in as his only worldly possessions.
Fergel made his way to
Specularum, the capital city of Karameikos, where he spent
the next nine years sinking further and further into the morass.
He moved from menial job to menial job, picking up only a few
skills along the way. His fateful career move came about when
his occasional drinking partner, Albrecht, told him of the money
to be made in the gambling pits of the Nest.
After a number of initial wins, Fergel began to lose, and
lose heavily. Convinced his luck was about to change, Fergel kept
gambling until he had nothing left. When asked to settle his debts
he could not and was faced with a stark choice: work for the crime
lords that owned the gambling pits or suffer the amputation of
his hands. Fergel often curses that day he chose to save his hands
and wonders if he might not have survived after all. His lack
of skills meant there was little he could do of practical use
until it was suggested that he might be usefully employed in Berhart's
House Of Comfort, a notorious brothel. Forcibly drugged, Fergel
has only vague memories of the two years he spent there but he
knows he acquired his peculiar nickname along the way. One of
his regular 'clients' was the popular singer Yolanda of Luln.
Fergel's epiphany came six
months ago as he nursed his friend Greta up until her death from
Syphilis. Greta was one of the many young girls who came to Specularum
looking for their fortune, only to be drafted into one of the
numerous whore houses and forced to work. Greta was the one person
that Fergel had met whom he genuinely cared for and he was devastated
when she died. Fergel escaped from Berhart's House Of Comfort
and left the city before he could be caught again. Fergus
is mentally scarred from his experiences. His short term aim was
to escape and he had no plans beyond that. He has a vague idea
that he should revenge Gretas death but in reality he wouldnt
know how to go about it. For the time being he is content to wander
until a chance for his revenge presents itself.

Donald [Glun Dubh] grew
up on his father's farm, but after his father was executed for
rustling he was kicked off the family land and became a 'broken
man' [outlaw]. Falling in with a like-minded group he mounted
raids for several months before being hounded out of his homeland
after his crimes drew too much official attention.
Donald has no respect for
authority and is crude and boorish. He is, however, ferociously
loyal to his friends and companions - not that he has many. Despite
his crude manner Donald is a skilled outdoorsman and an excellent
tracker.
Ferro Blackhelm, Son Of Boffo,
is short, angry, and impatient in the extreme. He drinks, swears,
and writes letters home to his mum at the foundry every second
day. He left the Blackhelm Friendly Family Foundry [of the Syrklist
Clan], based in Highforge, Karameikos, when he was a mere forty
years old to collect money for a supply of alloy cartwheels
the foundry had forged for a young Vestland coachbuilder, Niel
Bijorsson. After he slew Bijorsson for not paying the debt [fully
in accordance with strict Dwarvish terms of contract], Ferro
started to make his way back to the Foundry. He was waylaid
when, for the first time in his short life, he came across a
tavern. There, Ferro discovered ale which was forbidden in the
BFFF.
Ferro weighed up his love
for the family business and his love for the new-found ale,
and he quickly decided to stay at the tavern. In an emotion
and tear-stained letter, Ferro wrote to the Family, telling
them of his decision not to return [without mentioning the ale;
he was far too scared of the Dotar [family chief], Wharil,
to mention that]. Ferro told his family he would stay in the
world of the humans as a travelling salesman. Now in his seventy-eighth
year, Ferro uses his fabled powers of persuasion [and the threat
of his axe] to drum up new business for the Foundry.

Hailing from the
far-eastern island of Ochalea floating in the Sea of Dawn, Lien
Ho-Shen was left on the doorstep of a monastery worshipping
the immortal Koryis when he was an infant, having never known
his parents. Lien spent the next twenty-five years learning
all manner of skills from the monks: healing and the theology
of Koryis as well as numerous self-defence and combat skills.
He is most proficient with the Lungchuan broadsword, as well
as throwing shurikans and is also highly-skilled in various
martial arts. As a mystic, Lien follows a strict disclipline
of meditation, denial, seclusion and mastery of his body.
In AC 998, Lien's monastery
was attacked by slavers, and most of the monks slaughtered.
Lien was captured and brought to the Known World to be sold
into slavery. He managed to escape from his captors, killing
many of them. A trio of them managed to escape: the ring leader
and his two lieutenants. Lien will one day find them and finally
avenge his people. His motivation, apart from the above, is
to walk the land and aid the helpless, fighting evil wherever
he finds it.
Lien's word is his bond.
He is true to his oath and strives to repay all debts. As a
cleric of Koryis, the Patron of Peace and Prosperity, Lien believes
in resolving all problems through peaceful negotiation and commerce,
but Lien's harsh experiences have forced him to learn the formidible
self-defence tchniques practised by the Bronze Mantis, a remote
Ochalean warrior-priest sect. Upon meeting another creature
he considers peaceful of intent, Lien raises a fist, covered
with his other hand and bows slightly in greeting.

Odytheus is the
eldest son of Lord Theuclus Novamaxos of the Empire Of Thyatis.
They kept watch over the Thyatian-Alphatian borders along
the north-eastern Shadow Coast of the Isle Of Dawn, occupying
Fort Dominicos. Family tradition dictated a challenge for
each son. Odytheus was tested from the age of eight, with
a large rock in the grounds of his house. Lord Novamaxos told
Odytheus that when he lifted the rock, he would become a man.
Two days short of his eighteenth birthday, Odytheus finally
succeeded. Beneath the rock was a hole in the ground within
which was his family's armour, shield and sword - Odytheus's
reward.
Odytheus rose in rank
and stature to command Fort Dominicos's garrison as its captain.
He also grew in physical strength, lifting a large rock every
day to ever test his muscles. Captain Odytheus fought many
skirmishes with the Alphatian forces who contested the border
along their lands and the Shadow Coast until he was betrayed
by Lady Julia Kendasius and her captain Agthenon, who left
Odytheus and his army outflanked and lacking reinforcements
in the Celadus Hills. Odytheus was blamed for the military
defeat, and stripped of his title, his father publicly shamed.
Odytheus left Thyatis,
wandering the Known World from Karameikos to Sind. When he
did eventually return to Fort Dominicos, Odytheus discovered
Agethon had been awarded his father's estate, and had secretly
murdered Lord Theuclus. Vowing revenge, Odytheus has become
a mercenary, fighting where the money takes him, slowly-raising
funds to finance an army and reclaim the Shadow Coast Agethon.
Odytheus
is a noble warrior from a long line of noble warriors. He
is often arrogant, loud and brash, but he is above all else
loyal and he expects loyalties from everyone else. Anybody
he discovers betraying his or another's trust will be dealt
with in the harshest manner.
