Postcards: Aircraft

The massive growth in the popularity of postcards coincided with the early development of aircraft and the exploits of the pioneering aviators. It is important to look for named locations and dates as these can add dramatically to the value of cards, as can the messages on the reverse if they make reference to the subject.

This is the monoplane in which M. Bleriot made his successful flight across the English Channel on Sunday 25th July 1909.

This fine example of a Seaplane at Felixstowe (by local photographer Emeny) dates from around 1915.

Zeppelins have always held a unique fascination. The last two cards show the wreckage of the German Zeppelin brought down at Theberton, Suffolk, on 17th June 1917.

The final four cards show air crashes at Duxford.
