This ancient Water Gate is known as Pull's Ferry,
after James Pull,
who worked the ferry here for 45 years until his death in 1841.
The ferry provided a short-cut across the River Wensum to The Close
surrounding the Cathedral and operated until the 1940's. You can just see the top of the Cathedral spire in the background.
