Significant colour variations exist in half of the cards from series 1 (both sizes) and over two-thirds of the postcard sized cards. However, in series 2, only the Viola shows any variation.
Some colour differences are obvious and apply to the whole flower, such as the Michaelmas Daisy that appears in both Pink and Blue.

Others are a little harder to spot because the colour has been changed on only a small element of the design. For example, Aquilegia where the stamens can appear in either blue or green.

Several silks first appeared with multi coloured spreads but were later reduced to single coloured flowers. Compare for example the spray of Dahlias in red and pink with the later red only variety.

Many of the more subtle shade variations nicely picked out highlights in the main flower and the equivalent single shade varieties from later cover types appear flat by comparison. Unfortunately, such changes do not show up well on scans but hopefully you will get an incling of this from the following example of Nasturtium which first appeared in a lovely mix of orange and red but was later reduced to just orange.

The above example conveniently illustrates another minor variation on a theme. On the top and bottom of all of the silks appears a two line border. In the majority of cases this is green. However, in the medium sized cards from series one, both Nasturtium and Chrysanthemum are also found with an orange border, Carnation and Poppy with a red border, and Iris with a lilac border.
