Diss
continued their build up to the 2008/09 season with a defeat
against last season’s beaten F. A. Carlsberg Finalists Lowestoft
Town at Crown Meadow. The Tangerines had the better of a goal
less first half and fell to two second half goals as manager Rob
Taylor experimented with different formations in his first team
squad, which are now about 20 players strong. He said, “We mixed
and matched to continue to learn a lot about the players. I am
satisfied with the two games that we have played. Clearly some
players are trying to catch up, in respect of fitness levels, as
they have missed some of the hard training sessions that we had
before the games started. Our aim is to have all of the players
at the same level by the time that the first league game at
Newmarket arrives on August 9th.”
Both goals
were scored while central defender Kevin Leggett, who has
resisted attempts by other clubs to sign him and has agreed to
stay with The Tangerines, was being attended to for a swollen
eye following contact with a stray elbow. There was no major
damage and he was rested from the match with Needham Market on
Tuesday as a precaution to protect his blackened eye.
