Diss
travelled to Essex to take on Ryman League One North Aveley Town
in their 4th pre-season match. The Tangerines put in
an encouraging display against a team who play two divisions
higher and the match was much closer than the final score would
suggest.
Diss
started with Kevin Leggett as a lone striker and were outplayed
for the first quarter of an hour. It was no surprise when
another pass through the centre of the Diss defence ended with
Petric Elbi shooting Aveley into a 19th minute lead
from the edge of the penalty area. Diss then had the better of
the rest of the half. Luke Catchpole won the ball in the 25th
minute and released Leggett to find Danny Partridge wide on the
left. His cross allowed George Wilson to have a shot saved from
22 yards. G Wilson opened up the midfield five minutes before
half time with a fine touch and released Partridge to run and
have a shot blocked with his follow up effort flying into the
side netting. Diss equalised two minutes later. G Wilson played
the ball to Robbie Lawrence and he released Partridge to
run and round the goalkeeper before playing the ball across for
Leggett to shoot in from ten yards out. Diss attacked
immediately and Ben Deacon had a shot saved.
Lawrence
had a second half shot saved and Partridge was high after a fine
run but Mark Camidge was forced to make two good saves. Aveley
scored three late goals as both teams made several changes. Sean
Thomas brought the ball down well to shoot in from five yards
out in the 76th minute and turned an 81st
minute cross from the left in to make it 3-1. In between the two
Thomas goals Catchpole had a 30 yard shot saved. Partridge was
denied by a superb diving save after he cut in from the right
and hit an 82nd minute left foot shot. Two minutes
into added time Mark Shadrack conceded a penalty and Wayne
Vaughan made it 4-1 with the last kick of the match.
