Diss
collected their first point of the season. They had the better
of the first half against The Greens but overall a draw was a
fair result. Manager Robert Taylor made one change to the
starting line up from the team beaten at Newmarket – Adie Hayes
came in for 16 year old George Wilson, who will be unavailable
for Saturday’s F. A. Cup tie as he is playing for Norfolk
Under-18s.
Leighton
Miller had a header at a 20th minute corner deflected
wide and Andy Moody shot high when well placed four minutes
later following a run and cross by Danny Partridge. Diss took
the lead in the 33rd minute when Partridge was fouled
just outside the penalty area wide on the left. Adie Hayes sent
the free kick to the far post and Leighton Miller guided
his header from six yards out back and into the corner of the
net. Ricci Butler had a long range shot deflected for a corner
five minutes before half time with the best Gorleston effort of
the first half.
Gorleston
started the second half brightly and equalised in the 50th
minute. They counter attacked at a Diss free kick and with
defenders out of position for the home team Nathan Drake sent a
through ball to split open the remaining defenders and Chad
Pillar collected the ball and shot in from ten yards out.
Ben manning
was on hand to clear the danger in the 57th minute
when Osiris Gomes shot at goal after Luke Catchpole had a shot
blocked to a Ben Deacon cross from the left. There were appeals
that John Bell was brought down by Mark Camidge in the 62nd
minute after he chipped the ball over the home goalkeeper and
saw his shot kicked off the line by Steve Best. With the wind
increasing Ed Cussons had a cross which was heading for the roof
of the net tipped over by Tom Marsden in the 71st
minute. Pillar was a constant threat at the other end and was
only just wide four minutes later from 2 2yards out after he
beat two defenders. Steve Wright was denied by Marsden late in
the game twice. In the 79th minute Marsden held a
point blank header to a Gomes centre and a minute from time he
used his legs at point blank range to keep out a shot.
