Diss secured their second successive league win
as they won a competitive home match for the first time since 1st
March – a run of seven matches without a home win. The injury
list is getting shorter and Rob Taylor should soon have a full
squad to select from.
Downham came into the game with four league
defeats from four but took the lead in the 5th
minute. Brendan Foley was disposed by Sam Garner, who crossed
for Matt Chapman to shoot in from eight yards out. Chapman
missed a chance to increase the lead when he headed wide to a 17th
minute Garner cross. Diss gradually got back into the game and
equalised in the 30th minute. A corner found
Brendan Foley and he turned and hit a fine shot which was
deflected up into the net by a defender on the goal line.
George Wilson and Richard Williams missed chances
to put their sides ahead. Diss went into the break with the lead
when they scored their third penalty in two games. Andy Moody
was pushed to the floor by Marcus Fendley and Adie Hayes
stepped forward to send Max Snell the wrong way from the penalty
kick. Wayne Anderson missed a chance to equalise before the
break and only a fine double save from Mark Camidge two minutes
into the second half kept The Tangerines ahead. He kept out
efforts from Garner and Paul Harrod.
Danny Partridge was fit enough to play the last
half an hour of the match in his new bright tangerine boots. His
pace made a difference and opened up the visiting defence to
allow Ben Deacon to score twice. In the 75th minute
Partridge played the ball through for Ben Deacon to beat
the offside trap and shoot home from 20 yards out. Danny McKail
won the ball two minutes later and found Partridge. He ran down
the right wing and cut inside and played the ball across for
Ben Deacon to shoot in from close range to make it 4-1.
